Heart Conditions
( 1 items )
If you're like most people, you think that heart disease is a problem for other folks. But heart disease is the number one killer in the U.S. It is also a major cause of disability. There are many different forms of heart disease. The most common cause of heart disease is narrowing or blockage of the coronary arteries, the blood vessels that supply blood to the heart itself. This is called coronary artery disease and happens slowly over time. It's the major reason people have heart attacks. Other kinds of heart problems may happen to the valves in the heart, or the heart may not pump well and cause heart failure. Some people are born with heart disease. You can help reduce your risk of heart disease by taking steps to control factors that put you at greater risk: * Control your blood pressure * Lower your cholesterol * Don't smoke * Get enough exercise

Nourishment and Digestion
( 1 items )
The food you eat contains energy-giving nutrients that provide nourishment throughout your body. The only way your body can benefit from these is if your digestive tract works with utmost efficiency. Digestion is the process of breaking down these tightly bound molecules from the wholesome foods into individual nutrients so they can be absorbed into your body.
Digestion occurs in the gastrointestinal tract-the 20 to 30 foot long tube extending from your mouth to your anus. Whatever you eat flows through this system, but until it is absorbed through the intestinal tract, the nutrients in food are physically outside of your body.
Your gastrointestinal tract is your "internal skin", or a barrier between whatever you take in and your bloodstream. If these nutrients enter your bloodstream before they are turned into easily absorbable form, your cells will not be able to take these in and make sense of what you eat or drink.
Good digestion brings nourishment to all of your cells and tissues. This is how you maintain organ functions, support your need for energy, and provide for growth and repair of your body.

Cancer
( 2 items )
Cancer is a class of diseases characterized by uncontrolled
division of cells and the ability of these cells to invade other
tissues, either by direct growth into adjacent tissue (invasion) or
by implantation into distant sites (metastasis).
This unregulated
growth is caused by damage to DNA, resulting in mutations to genes
that control cell division. Several mutations may be required to
transform a normal cell into a malignant cell. These mutations are
often caused by chemicals or physical agents called carcinogens. Some
mutations occur spontaneously, or they can be inherited (germ line
mutations.)
Cancer can cause many different symptoms, depending on the site
and character of the malignancy and whether there is metastasis.
Cancer may be painless. A definitive diagnosis usually requires the
histologic examination of tissue by a pathologist. This tissue is
obtained by biopsy or surgery. Once diagnosed, cancer is usually
treated with surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation.
If untreated, cancers may eventually cause death. Cancer is mainly
a disease of later years, and is one of the leading causes of death
in developed countries. Most cancers can be treated and many cured,
especially if treatment begins early.
Many forms of cancer are
associated with exposure to environmental factors, such as tobacco
smoking, alcohol, and certain viruses. Some of these can be
avoidable, and public health and vaccination programs are important
on a global scale.

Muscles, Bones and Joints
( 3 items )
Joint, muscle and bone problems are among major causes of pain and disability at all ages. The skeleton, or your bones, provides support and structure to the body. Each bone is connected to another through a joint which allows the skeleton to be flexible for movement. In a joint, bones do not directly contact each other. Instead, they are cushioned by cartilage, membranes, and fluid.
Muscles provide the force and strength to move the body. Coordination, although directed by the brain, is affected by changes in the muscles and joints. Changes in the posture and gait, weakness, and slowed movement are caused by changes in the muscles, joints, and bones.
Whether you need help getting off the couch and beginning an exercise routine or you've been working out for years and want to ramp it up, you need strong bones, joints and muscles to keep your body going. Find out how you can prevent and heal your physical challenges and where to get appropriate assistance. The sooner you treat the problem, the easier will be the recovery. So, don't wait and start examining now.

We all experience mood changes occasionally. Most of us can bounce quickly to the normal state of mind. But for ten percent of the population this is not so easily done. They cannot simply cope with negative thoughts and feelings and feel hopelessness, lack of interest in usual pleasures, withdrawal, lack of energy and tend to reach for stimulant drugs such as alcohol and nicotine more often. These are symptoms of depression.
Depression is a real illness that involves the body, mood, and thoughts. It changes a person's perception of oneself andthe world around, affects eating and sleeping patterns, decreased sexual drive and desire for isolation. Regret, guilt and suicidal thoughts become normal. Without treatment, symptoms can last for weeks, months, or years.
